For those of you that have played them, how would you characterize the sound of a ladder braced guitar relative to the more standard x-braced approach?

Weren’t many of the 1920’s blues recordings played on ladder braced instruments?
Oh yes--did you make that purfling yourself?
If so, out of....?
Thanks Steve, about the purfling, yes & no..... I took a standard fine herringbone purf and split it down the middle taking out the maple center piece and replaced it with a bundle of B/G/B/B/G/B fibers at .020" each for a total width of ~.25". Gives it a little old timey look without the price of custom purflings.

Punchy, Responsive, Loud, Midrangey, nice strong trebles and warm thumping bass that's not boomy, but still strong.
Just the thing you want for country blues.

I just love the vintage look John. When done well, it breathes life and class into a guitar and imparts an air of grace normally only won after much time. You have done well John, very well, it's all fine wine to me.

Cheers

Kim

How did you go about splitting it down the middle John?

The couple I've tried had a very "intimate" sound. Warm and woody, with lots of midrange, which would seem limiting, but actually imparts a great balance from bass to treble. It's a sound I like very much, and I'm glad to see someone of John's skill bringin' 'em back!
It looks like it may be under 4 pounds, any way to weigh it?
Hesh, I weighed it after work today and it's 3lb 1.1oz all strung up with light gauge strings.

That is so fine, John!
Any chance of getting a closer shot of your binding?
Coe

Sweet. I know others have asked but would like to know what the model is based on. I could get into making one of those. Lover that old look. Very very nice for sure

Wow John, sure looks nice!
Best of both worlds, Brand new-vintage.
Way to go! Shows your love of building.
